About the Artists

Little pond Originally hailing from New York and New Jersey, Elliot Little has lived in Mendocino County for 35 years. His photography is a celebration of the beauty around us. The main focus of his current display is the intimate splendor of our local autumn, which can be compared in beauty to the fall New England colors. His words of advice for young photographers is: “Enjoy it. I remember going out in my rainsuit to see wildflowers coming out, lying on my stomach, breathing with the wind, and trying to get a shot.” He started photographing landscapes rather than close ups of flowers because he wanted to see where the flower grew.

Myers precious poppies 72 Rose Peterson Myers enjoys many different art forms, and is showing several different media this month. New bright and bold florals in traditional watercolor on paper are presented along with baskets, decorative art pieces, and a wine barrel head painted in acrylic of a summer vineyard landscape to celebrate our fall grape harvest. To complete the show, she is offering a preview of several jewelry pieces, more of which will be offered during the holiday boutique in December.

Heady blackbird 72 Carol Heady has been drawing for over 40 years, developing her own recognizable style.  She and her husband take trips into the wilderness with pack mules, and from these trips she gets the inspiration for her art works. She has won hundred’s of awards in competition art shows, and has illustrated books and western catalogs. Her colorful pen and ink drawings, colored with photographic ink, have a new look.

Date and time: Friday, November 7, 5 to 8 pm
Where: Corner Gallery, Art Center Ukiah, 201 S State Street, Ukiah
Musicians: The Broadcasters
Winery: Eaglepoint Ranch Winery
Wine and refreshments will be served.

New Art Work in the Gallery

Aluminum honeycomb 72 The artists are constantly bringing in new work to the gallery. Yesterday Red Wolf, a founding member from Potter Valley, hung several new pieces created in his unique and beautiful brushed aluminum honeycomb method.  Working in a new medium, he has also created a translucent polycarbonate-based free standing sculpture mounted on a copper base. This new artwork has optical properties of dichroic glass, but is achieved with Red Wolf's layering painting processes.

Silk detail 72 Earlier this week, Cassie Gibson hung a new silk wall hanging made from dupionni silk — dyed, overdyed, discharged, screen printed, hand painted, and stitched. It is part of a four-piece series on the seasons — each one created using different processes. Cassie says, "I love the fall with the leaves floating around and the earth colors glimmering. Hence the silk leaves scattered. I enjoy the process of creation — I preplan only partially."

Red horse leaping platter 72 Adriana Dakin has new ceramic platters with brushwork of horses, hills, and red suns, and more arriving tomorrow.

Stop by soon! We are featuring Gallery Specials from October 31st to November 2nd — select pieces throughout the gallery will be on sale.

Ann and Jon Maglinte's 30-Year Story

Breaking news: At Mendocino Art Center's Second Annual Juried Animal Art Show, Ann Maglinte received Best of Show for her watercolor painting of her tiger cat "Waiting for Breakfast,"  which sold at the show. Ann also had three paintings accepted into the WASCO Aqua Areas juried watercolor show in Santa Rosa, where her painting "Carnival Peony" won third place.

The article below was originally published in "The Maglintes Continue to Glitter," Arts Council of Mendocino, September 2008:

Maglinteann Jon and Ann Maglinte have been business partners for over 30 years. In 1974 they started their business, Midnight Moon, and began showing their art work at Renaissance Faires on the West Coast. They were living in San Jose. They sold herb plants, sachets, and herbal products.  In 1980 they started a new business, Victorian Scents, which produced a line of sachets, potpourri, and decorative items that they wholesaled to many well-know retailers, including Macy's, Gump's, Nordstrom's, Mervyn's, Victoria's Secret and many other stores.

Large Commissioned Gray Whale in Progress

By Red Wolf, Founding Member

Red Wolf portrait bw 72 Part of my artwork interest is in creating large custom artwork for public and commercial spaces. This year I have been preparing for a large job in Los Angeles for the United Oil Company.

I am being commissioned to provide what will be around 1000 square feet of artwork. This painting will be created here in Potter Valley in my studio and then shipped south to be installed. I will paint on a collection of 4'x8' aluminum panels to collectively become the ceiling and part of the walls for this project.
